The Casa del Cordón is known for the Franciscan cordon that adorns its main entrance. It is a symbol of Burgos civil architecture from the late 15th century. Built by order of the Constables of Castile as their residence, its walls welcomed the visit of kings and was the scene of important political and social events. 💡Curiosities On its main facade an inscription recalls the reception of Christopher Columbus by the Catholic Monarchs after his return from the second trip to America. The palace was also the scene of the death of King Felipe el Hermoso and other historical events such as the signing of the Laws of Burgos, the first to regulate the treatment of Indians in the New World and abolish the slavery of indigenous people. The palace currently belongs to a bank. Through the Caja de Burgos Foundation, multiple cultural activities are carried out in its «Cultural Cordón» space. 🗺 How to get there? It is located 4 minutes walk from the Burgos Town Hall. To access by car, you will find a parking lot 5 minutes away, located in Plaza de España.
