Classicist building in which its interior staircase stands out. It was built between 1864 and 1869; work of the Burgos architects Ángel Calleja and Luis Villanueva. It is located in the old 18th century jail, built during the reign of Carlos III. Located on the Paseo del Espolón, in front of the Principal Theater. 💡Curiosities It has a magnificent classicist facade with three access doors. Above the main door there is a balustrade decorated with four Ionic pilasters on which a classical pediment sits. Inside it houses an imposing imperial staircase in whose skylight we find wall paintings, made by Vela Zanetti, dedicated to four scenes from the Cantar del Mio Cid. In these paintings from 1965, we can appreciate the scenes of La Jura de Santa Gadea, El Destierro, La Batalla and El Duelo.For this building, stone from Hontoria de la Cantera was used, as in the Cathedral. 🗺 How to get there? It is located 3 minutes walk from the Burgos Town Hall. To access by car, you will find four different car parks within 10 minutes, one located in Plaza Vega, another in Plaza de España, the third in Plaza de Santa Teresa and finally the parking of the Museum of Human Evolution. 📍Surrounding area In its surroundings you can also find the Town Hall, the Main Theater, the Statue of El Cid and the Fadrique de Basilea Book Museum.
