Old gate of the medieval wall, it appears presided over by a shield of the city of Burgos. The Puerta de San Gil is part of the set of walls that King Alfonso X the Wise ordered built in 1276 and whose works were completed in the 14th century. The original door was profoundly modified in the middle of the 16th century and in the 18th century. In its surroundings there are still remains of an old cube and the Chapel of the Nativity of the church of San Gil, which rests on the remains of the old wall. 💡Curiosities For centuries, it was one of the main entrances to Burgos from the North. Throughout its history, the Council endowed this arch with various uses, among which the prison and, later, that of a tenement house stand out. 🗺 How to get there? It is located 5 minutes walk from the Burgos Town Hall. To access by car, you will find a parking 6 minutes away, located on Plaza de España street.
