It was founded by King Alfonso VIII, becoming one of the most famous hospitals on the Camino de Santiago. Completely renovated, it preserves the splendid Puerta de Romeros, a Plateresque work from the 16th century, which gives access to the patio of the same name and to the church, whose door has a wonderful representation of Santiago and the pilgrims. After a great restoration, today it houses the Rectorate and Law School of the University of Burgos. 💡Curiosities Next to the Hospital del Rey stands the hermitage of San Amaro, where tradition says that this saint is buried, who dedicated his life to the care and assistance of the Jacobean pilgrims. 🗺 How to get there? It is located a 17-minute walk from the Isla Park. From the Burgos Town Hall, it is a little further, about 30 minutes on foot. 📍Surrounding area In its surroundings you can also find the Hermitage of San Amaro, the Parral park and the monastery de las Huelgas.
