In the central and stately Paseo de la Isla is the Palace with the same name. It is a nineteenth-century building with eclectic characters in which neo-Gothic features stand out. While the Palace was owned by Don Juan de Muguiro, distinguished figures of Spanish history such as Queen María Cristina and hers, her son Alfonso XIII, stayed there. During the Civil War it served as the residence of General Francisco Franco. In 1982 the City Council regained ownership of the building, and since then different official receptions and cultural events have been held there. 💡Curiosities At the moment it is the official headquarters of the Castilian and Leonese Institute of the Language and various activities are carried out there, such as exhibitions and courses. 🏆 Recognition In 1943 it was declared a National Monument. 🗺 How to get there? It is located 11 minutes walk from the Burgos Town Hall. To access by car, you will find a parking lot 10 minutes away, located in Plaza Vega.
